Column: Eliminate boxing headgear? Why, of course (The Associated Press)

FILE - In this Aug. 1, 2012, file photo, Russia's Sergey Vodopiyanov, right, fights Brazil's Robenilson Vieira de Jesus, during their men's bantamweight 56-kilogram boxing match at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The International Boxing Association's plan to eliminate headgear will make for more attractive fights, and might even safely secure the Olympic future of a sport that was very iffy in the games for a while. It would also seem, at least on the surface, to be inherently more dangerous. (AP Photo/Ivan Sekretarev, File)

It seems almost counterintuitive, another idea dreamed up by the people who have been trying to kill amateur boxing for years.
